A Skeleton Dragon in Dungeons & Dragons is an undead creature that combines the terrifying form of a dragon with the eerie qualities of a skeleton. These creatures are the remains of once-powerful dragons, reanimated through necromantic magic, either by dark forces or as a result of their own lingering malevolent spirits. Typically, a Skeleton Dragon retains many of the traits of the dragon it once was, including its massive size, strength, and fearsome presence, but now these traits are intertwined with the unnerving features of an undead creature.

The process of creating a Skeleton Dragon usually involves the death of a dragon, followed by the use of powerful necromantic spells or rituals that reanimate its bones and imbuing them with malevolent energy. The result is a creature that, though no longer alive in the traditional sense, can still be incredibly dangerous due to its preserved combat skills, magical abilities, and innate power. Its motivations, if it even has any, are typically centered around the preservation of death and the perpetuation of its master's goals. Because of its undying nature, a Skeleton Dragon may be an ongoing threat that requires either a powerful hero or a great deal of preparation to defeat.
