A Werebulette is a hybrid lycanthropic creature in Dungeons & Dragons, combining the features of a humanoid and a bulette, the infamous land shark. Unlike traditional lycanthropes such as werewolves, a Werebulette does not transform under the full moon but shifts between humanoid, hybrid, and bulette forms at will. This transformation grants it powerful burrowing abilities, thick armor-like skin, and a devastating bite attack, making it a fearsome predator.
In its hybrid form, a Werebulette retains a roughly humanoid shape but grows a massive, armored carapace, jagged teeth, and powerful digging claws. This form allows it to burrow through the ground at surprising speeds, ambushing prey from below. Its innate resilience makes it incredibly difficult to harm with non-magical weapons, as is common with lycanthropes. However, unlike the typical weakness to silver, Werebulettes might have resistances based on their bulette heritage, such as an aversion to adamantine.
Origin stories for Werebulettes vary, with some legends suggesting they were created through dark magic or cursed experimentation. Others claim they are the result of a bulette attack on an infected lycanthrope, creating an unstable mutation. Their temperament is often aggressive and territorial, much like their bulette ancestors, and they are known to be relentless hunters.
Werebulettes make formidable foes in combat, using their ability to tunnel and strike from unexpected angles. A Werebulette’s lair is usually underground, filled with partially devoured remains of previous victims. Intelligent ones might lead packs of bulettes or use their humanoid cunning to set traps. Rare individuals who embrace their condition may seek control over their monstrous instincts, becoming mercenaries or wandering warriors feared across the land.
As a unique lycanthropic horror, the Werebulette offers a terrifying challenge for adventurers who dare to venture into its hunting grounds.
