The Model is 170x113mm in size

The 0-6-0 ST “Wissington” is a small industrial steam locomotive built in 1938 by the Hunslet Engine Company of Leeds, England. The “0-6-0” part of its designation refers to its wheel arrangement under the Whyte system: it has six driving wheels and no leading or trailing wheels. The “ST” stands for “saddle tank,” meaning that its water tank is mounted over the top of the boiler like a saddle, giving it a compact, sturdy appearance suitable for industrial work rather than mainline passenger duties.

“Wissington” was built for the British Sugar Corporation’s Wissington factory in Norfolk, where it spent decades hauling wagons of sugar beet and goods around the plant’s internal railway network. Industrial locomotives like this were designed for short runs, tight curves, and heavy shunting duties, so they were built to be durable, powerful for their size, and easy to maintain. Its design, typical of Hunslet’s industrial locomotives, includes outside cylinders, a short wheelbase, and a simple cab, prioritizing practicality over comfort.

When the sugar beet railway closed in the 1970s, “Wissington” was preserved rather than scrapped, eventually finding a home on the North Norfolk Railway. It underwent a lengthy restoration that returned it to working order, allowing it to operate on heritage railways where it serves as an example of mid-20th-century industrial steam engineering. Though modest in size, “Wissington” represents an important piece of Britain’s industrial and agricultural history, illustrating the role steam power played in the country’s factories and rural industries long after diesel traction had begun to dominate the main lines.
