The Alaskan Malamute is a large, powerful, and enduring breed of dog originally bred by the native Inuit people of Alaska, specifically the Mahlemut tribe, for hauling heavy loads over long distances in harsh Arctic conditions. They are one of the oldest Arctic sled dog breeds and were developed primarily for strength and stamina rather than speed. Malamutes are often compared to Siberian Huskies, but they are noticeably larger and more robust, built for pulling heavy sleds rather than racing.
Physically, Malamutes have a dense double coat, which protects them from extreme cold, and a bushy tail that often curls over their back. Their coat colors usually range from light gray to black, sable, or shades of red, typically with white markings on the face, chest, and legs. They have strong, muscular bodies, erect ears, and expressive almond-shaped eyes, often brown, giving them an intelligent and alert appearance.
