A Bichon Frise is a small, cheerful, and affectionate dog breed known for its fluffy white coat and lively personality. The name “Bichon Frise” comes from French, meaning “curly-haired lap dog.” These dogs are part of the toy or companion group, bred primarily for companionship rather than work.
The Bichon typically weighs between 5 and 8 kilograms (10 to 18 pounds) and stands about 23 to 30 centimeters (9 to 12 inches) tall at the shoulder. Its most distinctive feature is its soft, curly double coat, which gives it a cotton-ball appearance. The outer coat is curly and puffy, while the undercoat is dense and soft, making grooming a consistent necessity. Because they do not shed much, they are often considered hypoallergenic, which makes them a good choice for people with mild allergies.
Personality-wise, the Bichon Frise is known for being playful, gentle, and very social. They thrive on human companionship and often get along well with children and other pets. Their cheerful nature makes them excellent family dogs, and they tend to adapt easily to different living environments, including apartments. However, they do not like being left alone for long periods, as they can develop separation anxiety.
In terms of training, Bichons are intelligent and eager to please, though they can sometimes be a little stubborn. With positive reinforcement and patience, they usually excel at obedience and even dog sports like agility. Regular exercise is important, but they don’t require as much activity as larger working breeds—short daily walks and playtime usually keep them content.
Health-wise, the breed is generally sturdy but can be prone to issues like allergies, dental problems, and patellar luxation. With good care, they often live between 12 and 15 years.
This Bust is 15cm tall.
