A Biewer Yorkshire Terrier is a small, elegant, and playful dog breed that originated in Germany in the 1980s. It is a variation of the traditional Yorkshire Terrier, distinguished primarily by its unique tri-color coat, which usually features white, black, and gold markings. This striking coloration is the defining trait of the breed and sets it apart from standard Yorkies, which typically have a steel-blue and tan coat.
Biewer Terriers are toy-sized, typically weighing between 3 to 6 pounds (1.4 to 2.7 kg) and standing around 7 to 11 inches tall (18 to 28 cm) at the shoulder. Despite their small stature, they are known for having bold, confident personalities. They are lively, affectionate, and intelligent, making them excellent companions for families, singles, and seniors alike. They thrive on human interaction and enjoy being the center of attention, often forming strong bonds with their owners.
In terms of care, their long, silky coat requires regular grooming to prevent tangles and mats. Many owners choose to keep their coat trimmed for easier maintenance. They are generally healthy dogs but can be prone to typical small-breed issues such as dental problems and luxating patellas.
Biewers are energetic and enjoy playtime, short walks, and mental stimulation. Their temperament is often described as sweet-natured and gentle, and they tend to get along well with other pets if socialized properly. While small in size, they carry a confident and spirited personality, making them both charming and lively companions.
