A Bolonka is a small breed of dog that originates from Russia, specifically developed as a companion dog. Its full name is often Bolonka Zwetna, which translates to “colored lapdog” in Russian. The breed was created by crossing various small companion breeds, including the Toy Poodle, Bichon Frisé, Shih Tzu, and others, to produce a friendly, affectionate, and low-shedding pet.
Bolonkas are known for their compact size, typically weighing between 3 to 4 kilograms (6–9 lbs) and standing about 20–26 cm (8–10 inches) tall. They have soft, wavy, or curly coats that come in a variety of colors, including white, black, brown, and combinations thereof. The coat is hypoallergenic and does not shed much, making them a popular choice for people with allergies.
