A Border Terrier is a small, energetic dog breed originating from the border region between England and Scotland. Bred primarily for hunting foxes and other small vermin, Border Terriers are known for their keen intelligence, agility, and strong prey drive. Despite their hunting origins, they are highly adaptable and can be affectionate family companions.

Physically, Border Terriers are compact and muscular, usually weighing between 11 and 16 kilograms (24–35 pounds) and standing about 10–13 inches (25–33 cm) tall at the shoulder. They have a distinctive “otter-like” face with a short, strong muzzle, dark, expressive eyes, and small, V-shaped ears that fold forward. Their double coat is dense and wiry, providing weather resistance, and often comes in colors such as red, grizzle and tan, blue and tan, or wheaten. Regular grooming, including hand-stripping, is recommended to maintain their coat and texture.

Temperamentally, Border Terriers are intelligent, alert, and friendly. They are generally good with children and can get along with other dogs if properly socialized, though their strong hunting instincts can sometimes make them chase small animals. They are known for their determination, curiosity, and playful nature, making them excellent companions for active households. Border Terriers thrive on exercise and mental stimulation, enjoying activities like agility, obedience, and scent work.
