Historically, these dogs were bred by farmers and monks to handle a wide variety of demanding tasks: herding cattle, pulling carts, guarding property, and even turning dairy churns. Because of this multipurpose background, the Bouvier became known as a strong, versatile, and highly intelligent working breed.
Physically, the Bouvier is a large and muscular dog, typically weighing between 70 and 110 pounds, with a thick double coat that is weather-resistant and comes in shades of fawn, brindle, black, or gray.
