A Brachiosaurus was a genus of large, herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, around 154–150 million years ago. It is one of the most recognizable dinosaurs due to its distinctive body shape. Unlike many other long-necked dinosaurs (sauropods), the Brachiosaurus had long front legs that were longer than its hind legs, which gave it an upright posture and a sloping back. This unique structure allowed it to reach high into trees to feed on leaves and other vegetation that other herbivores could not access. Its neck could reach up to 9 meters (30 feet) long, making it an effective browser of tall conifers and cycads.

Brachiosaurus had a relatively small head compared to its massive body, with nostrils positioned on top of its head. Its body could reach lengths of about 25 meters (82 feet) and weigh around 35–56 tons. Unlike some other sauropods, it had a more upright stance rather than a horizontally extended neck, which is why it’s often depicted reaching skyward for food. Its tail was long but not as heavy or muscular as those of some other sauropods, suggesting it relied less on tail defense and more on its enormous size to deter predators.

Fossils of Brachiosaurus have primarily been found in North America, and it has become an iconic dinosaur in popular culture due to its distinctive shape and immense size. In terms of behavior, it likely lived in herds and may have migrated to follow seasonal vegetation, much like modern large herbivores.

In short, the Brachiosaurus was a giant, tree-browsing dinosaur with a long neck, massive body, and front legs taller than its back legs, adapted to feeding on vegetation that few others could reach.
