The Brittany Spaniel, often just called a Brittany, is a medium-sized gun dog originating from France, bred primarily for hunting birds. Despite its “spaniel” name, it is more closely aligned with pointing breeds in behavior and hunting style. Brittanys are highly energetic, intelligent, and affectionate dogs, known for their friendly and eager-to-please personalities, making them excellent companions as well as hunting partners.

Physically, they are compact and athletic, typically weighing between 30 and 40 pounds and standing 17.5 to 20.5 inches tall at the shoulder. They have a dense, flat or wavy coat that is usually orange and white, liver and white, or a combination of roan patterns. Their ears are set high, moderately long, and slightly rounded at the tip, and their tails are often docked in countries where this is permitted, though natural tails are short and expressive.
