A Caucasian Shepherd, also known as the Caucasian Ovcharka, is a large and powerful dog breed that originated in the Caucasus region of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Historically, these dogs were bred to protect livestock from predators such as wolves and bears, so they are naturally strong, fearless, and highly protective.
Caucasian Shepherds are massive dogs, with males often weighing between 110–220 pounds (50–100 kg) and standing 25–30 inches (64–76 cm) tall at the shoulder. Their thick double coat, which can be long or medium in length, protects them from harsh weather conditions, particularly the cold mountainous climates of their native region. Coat colors vary widely, including shades of gray, fawn, red, cream, and sometimes even brindle.
Temperament-wise, they are extremely loyal to their family and highly territorial.
