This is a highly detailed miniature of an Abyssal Hybrid Beast.
This model was created by Crossel who makes amazingly accurate models of the Monster Manual creatures and provided by kind permission.
An Abyssal Hybrid Beast in Dungeons & Dragons is not a standard, rules-defined creature but rather a conceptual monstrosity typically associated with the corrupting influence of the Abyss. In the cosmology of D&D, particularly within settings such as the Great Wheel, the Abyss is the chaotic evil plane that spawns demons and embodies entropy, mutation, and unrestrained savagery. An Abyssal Hybrid Beast would therefore be a creature warped by demonic essence—either through prolonged exposure to abyssal energies, infernal experimentation, or direct blessing (or curse) from a demon lord.
Such a being usually combines traits of multiple creatures, fused into a single unnatural organism. Its morphology might include mismatched limbs, chitinous plating alongside fur or scales, vestigial wings, multiple maws, or eyes that glow with baleful intelligence. Unlike natural hybrids such as owlbears, an Abyssal Hybrid Beast reflects chaotic mutation rather than deliberate arcane breeding. Its physiology is unstable, often described as writhing or subtly shifting, as though reality itself rejects its form.
Mechanically, a Dungeon Master would likely classify it as a monstrosity or fiend, depending on the extent of its corruption. It may possess resistances common to demons—such as resistance to fire, cold, or lightning—and possibly magic resistance. Claw and bite attacks are typical, often augmented with necrotic or psychic damage to represent abyssal corruption. Some variants might exude an aura of madness or fear, forcing nearby creatures to make Wisdom saving throws against short-term insanity effects.
Narratively, an Abyssal Hybrid Beast serves as a manifestation of planar corruption. It may guard a cult’s ritual site, roam a blighted wilderness twisted by demonic incursions, or act as a failed experiment of a mad warlock. Its presence signals the thinning of planar boundaries and the intrusion of chaotic evil into the Material Plane. In tone and function, it embodies the Abyss itself—violent, unpredictable, and fundamentally profane.
This model is 42mm tall at 32mm scale.
