An Arcanaloth is a fiendish creature from the Yugoloth family in Dungeons & Dragons, known for its cunning intellect and mastery of arcane magic. Resembling tall humanoid jackals with glowing eyes and sharp claws, Arcanaloths serve as the schemers, diplomats, and spellcasters among their kind. They dwell in the Lower Planes, particularly in Gehenna, and are often found within the mercenary hierarchy of the Yugoloths, who are themselves neutral-evil fiends obsessed with self-interest, contracts, and manipulation.

What sets Arcanaloths apart is their combination of scholarly demeanor and ruthless pragmatism. They possess a deep hunger for knowledge, especially forbidden lore, magical secrets, and ancient texts. This thirst often makes them useful to mortal summoners, who might attempt to bargain with an Arcanaloth in exchange for magical power or insights. However, these bargains are always perilous. Arcanaloths are master manipulators who rarely act without several layers of hidden intent. They honor contracts to the letter but twist meanings wherever they can, exploiting loopholes with glee and often leaving their summoners worse off than before.

In combat, Arcanaloths rely on devastating magic rather than brute force. They are capable of casting high-level spells, including teleportation, illusions, and firepower like fireball or disintegrate.
