A Baby Displacer Kitten is the young offspring of a Displacer Beast, a magical panther-like creature with six legs and two long tentacles tipped with barbs. Unlike their adult counterparts, which are fearsome predators, Displacer Kittens are smaller, playful, and less dangerous. However, they still possess the inherent magical ability to distort light around them, creating the illusion that they are a few feet away from their actual position.  

In some Dungeons & Dragons settings, Displacer Kittens have been used as exotic pets by eccentric nobles or powerful wizards. While they may appear cute and trainable, their natural tendency to displace makes them difficult to catch and even harder to control. They are also prone to playful mischief, often pouncing on unseen threats due to their heightened instincts. Over time, if raised in captivity, a Displacer Kitten may form a bond with its caretaker, but its wild nature remains a challenge.  

Adventurers might encounter Displacer Kittens in various ways, such as stumbling upon a litter in the wilderness or finding one for sale in a black-market exotic pet trade. Raising a Displacer Kitten is risky since, as it matures, it will grow into a deadly predator unless magically altered or carefully trained. Some Dungeon Masters allow players to adopt a Displacer Kitten as a companion or familiar, though balancing its unique abilities can be a challenge.  

Mechanically, Displacer Kittens may have lesser versions of the adult’s displacement ability, making them difficult to hit but not as effectively evasive.
