This is a highly detailed miniature of a Baby Hippogriff.

This model was created by M3DM who makes amazingly accurate models of Dungeons & Dragons creatures and is provided by Commercial License.

A baby hippogriff in Dungeons & Dragons is a young version of the magical beast known as a hippogriff, which is a hybrid creature with the front half of an eagle and the hindquarters of a horse. These creatures are known for their keen intelligence, strong loyalty, and swift flight, making them prized as mounts and companions.

Unlike their fully grown counterparts, baby hippogriffs are not yet capable of flight and rely on their parents or caretakers for protection. They are typically covered in soft downy feathers that gradually give way to stronger plumage as they mature. Their equine hindquarters remain small and underdeveloped in early stages, making them more clumsy on land. However, they possess sharp instincts, an innate curiosity, and a strong bond with those who raise them.

In a campaign, baby hippogriffs can serve as quest rewards, pets, or roleplaying opportunities. Adventurers may find an orphaned hippogriff egg, needing to care for it until it hatches and imprinting on the young creature as a trusted companion. Training a baby hippogriff requires time, patience, and resources, as it must learn to hunt, fly, and eventually bear a rider. Some noble houses or aerial cavalry units in a fantasy setting might breed and raise hippogriffs for war or transport.

Mechanically, DMs may treat a baby hippogriff as a weaker version of the adult with reduced hit points, lower damage, and no flight until it matures. It can be used in animal companion rules or as a tamed pet, depending on the game’s rules and the DM’s discretion. Over time, a well-raised baby hippogriff can grow into a powerful ally, offering both mobility and combat support to adventurers who care for it.
