In Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), a ghoul is a type of undead creature that lurks in dark places, preying upon the living. Ghouls are often depicted as twisted, corpse-like beings with a insatiable hunger for flesh, particularly that of humans. They possess a horrifying appearance, with rotting flesh, sharp claws, and glowing eyes that pierce through the darkness.

Ghouls are known for their agility and stealth, often stalking their prey from the shadows before pouncing upon them with surprising speed. They are cunning hunters, capable of setting traps and ambushes to catch their victims off guard. Despite their undead nature, ghouls retain a sort of twisted intelligence, allowing them to strategize and work together to bring down their prey.

One of the most chilling aspects of ghouls is their ability to paralyze their victims with a touch. This paralyzing touch renders their prey helpless, allowing the ghouls to devour them at their leisure. Victims of ghoul attacks often become ghouls themselves, rising from death to join the ranks of their flesh-hungry brethren.

In D&D lore, ghouls are often associated with necromancy and dark magic. They are frequently found in graveyards, crypts, and other places of death, where they scavenge for corpses to feed upon. Some ghouls serve more powerful undead beings, such as liches or vampires, acting as their minions and guardians.

Adventurers who encounter ghouls must exercise caution, as these creatures pose a significant threat, especially in large numbers. They are resilient to many forms of conventional weaponry and can quickly overwhelm the unprepared. However, ghouls are vulnerable to certain holy symbols, spells, and magical weapons that can disrupt their undead forms and drive them back into the darkness from whence they came.

In summary, ghouls in Dungeons & Dragons are terrifying undead creatures driven by an insatiable hunger for flesh. With their agility, stealth, and paralyzing touch, they are formidable adversaries that lurk in the shadows, waiting to feast upon the living. Only the bravest and most skilled adventurers dare to face these creatures and emerge victorious.
