This is a highly detailed miniature of a Goblin Mage.

This model was created by Ella´s Arcanum who makes amazingly accurate models of Dungeons & Dragons creatures and is provided by Commercial License.

A Goblin Mage in Dungeons and Dragons is a cunning, unpredictable wielder of arcane power whose magic is shaped by instinct, opportunism, and a sharp survival mindset. Unlike formally trained wizards, goblin mages rarely learn in academies or under patient mentors. Their spellcasting emerges through scavenged spellbooks, stolen scrolls, whispered bargains, or dangerous experimentation that rewards the clever and punishes the careless. What they lack in discipline, they compensate for with creativity and sheer audacity.

Physically, a Goblin Mage is small and wiry, with exaggerated expressions and sharp features that constantly telegraph mischief or menace. Their eyes gleam with intelligence and ambition, often darting as they assess threats and opportunities simultaneously. Robes and garments are typically crude, stitched together from looted fabrics and reinforced with rope or bone charms. Arcane focuses are improvised and personal, such as gnarled staffs, cracked crystals, or talismans believed to enhance magical potency through superstition as much as spellcraft.

Mentally, goblin mages are opportunistic and clever. They approach magic as a means to gain leverage over stronger foes, reveling in spells that confuse, frighten, or manipulate rather than overpower directly. While often impulsive, they possess sharp battlefield awareness and an instinctive grasp of timing, knowing exactly when to strike and when to flee. Their confidence frequently borders on arrogance, fueled by the belief that magic makes them untouchable.

In combat, a Goblin Mage favors mobility and disruption. They dart between cover, unleashing bursts of arcane energy, illusions, or elemental effects before repositioning. Direct confrontation is avoided unless victory is assured, and retreat is viewed not as cowardice, but as strategy. Allies are useful tools, enemies are experiments, and chaos is a preferred environment.

Within a campaign, a Goblin Mage can serve as a deceptive adversary, a troublesome ally, or a recurring nuisance who escapes just often enough to become legendary. They represent magic stripped of tradition and restraint, wielded by those clever enough to survive its dangers and bold enough to exploit its power without apology.
