A Greater Water Elemental in Dungeons & Dragons is a powerful, elemental creature composed of water, typically summoned from the Plane of Water. It is a more advanced and dangerous version of the regular Water Elemental. These beings are typically neutral in alignment, embodying the raw, primal forces of water with little concern for mortal affairs, though they may be summoned to perform specific tasks by spellcasters or other powerful entities.
Greater Water Elementals are much larger and stronger than their lesser counterparts. They are often depicted as massive, swirling masses of water that can shape themselves into humanoid forms or take more fluid, formless shapes. Their size allows them to dominate the battlefield, moving through terrain with ease and being highly resistant to physical attacks. These creatures are immune to most forms of damage except for force and certain magical effects, and they can reform if they are temporarily dispersed, making them very difficult to permanently defeat.
One of their most notable abilities is their control over water. A Greater Water Elemental can manipulate water to create floods, high waves, or even create whirlpools that can drag opponents into the depths. They can also form weapons or barriers from water to aid in combat. Additionally, they have a powerful crushing slam attack that can deal significant damage. The elemental's connection to water also allows it to breathe and move freely underwater, granting it advantages in aquatic environments.
When summoned, a Greater Water Elemental can be bound to a specific location or task, but it may be difficult to control due to its independence and elemental nature. They are often seen as forceful agents of nature rather than allies.
