In Dungeons & Dragons, a Kenku is a bird-like humanoid known for their innate artistic abilities and their tragic curse. Originally created by the deity Vecna as spies and assassins, Kenku were punished for their betrayal by having their wings clipped and their voices stolen. This curse stripped them of their ability to fly and robbed them of the power of original speech, leaving them only able to mimic sounds and voices they've heard before.

Physically, Kenku resemble humanoid crows or ravens with sleek, feathered bodies, clawed hands, and a sharp, beaked visage. They are typically lean and agile, adept at stealth and skilled with tools. Kenku society is often structured around small, tight-knit groups or tribes, where they rely on their mimicry abilities to communicate and survive.

Despite their curse, Kenku are exceptionally talented artisans and craftsmen. They excel in visual arts, particularly in intricate designs and detailed illustrations. They often express themselves through their creations, as they lack the ability to speak coherently in their own words.

Kenku adventurers are driven by a desire to reclaim their lost heritage and redeem themselves from the shadow of their cursed past. They are drawn to professions where their artistic skills and adaptability shine, such as rogues, bards, or even wizards. Their mimicry can be both a boon and a burden, as it allows them to deceive and surprise, but also reminds them constantly of their inability to create original thoughts or speech.

In gameplay, Kenku players must creatively navigate their limitations, relying on gestures, gestures, drawings, and mimicry to communicate with their companions. Their journey often involves seeking ways to break or mitigate the curse, or coming to terms with their identity in a world that often mistrusts or fears their deceptive nature.
