Lizardfolk in Dungeons & Dragons are reptilian humanoids known for their cold-blooded pragmatism and survival instincts. Originating from swampy regions and dense jungles, they have a close connection to the natural world, valuing survival above all else. Lizardfolk are physically imposing, with thick scales that provide natural armor, sharp claws, and a powerful tail, which they can use as a weapon. Their appearance is often intimidating, resembling large, upright lizards with a variety of scale colors, typically green, brown, or grey, blending with their environment.

Lizardfolk society is built around the principles of practicality and self-sufficiency. They live in small tribes, often led by the strongest or most cunning member. Their way of life is harsh, dictated by the demands of their environment. Lizardfolk do not hold onto sentiments such as compassion or mercy, viewing them as weaknesses that can lead to death. This cold, utilitarian mindset extends to their interactions with other races; they are not inherently evil but see other beings as potential resources, whether for alliances or sustenance.

While not particularly innovative, Lizardfolk are highly adaptive and capable hunters and warriors. They craft simple but effective weapons from natural materials, such as bone, stone, and wood, and their skills in tracking, camouflage, and ambush make them formidable adversaries in their native environments. Lizardfolk are also known for their ability to hold their breath for extended periods, an adaptation that aids in their hunting and combat strategies.

In D&D, Lizardfolk characters are often portrayed as aloof and inscrutable, driven by instincts and logic rather than emotions. Their unique worldview, shaped by the harshness of their environment, makes them fascinating and challenging characters, often misunderstood by those who judge them by more human standards.
