In Dungeons & Dragons, a Nightwalker is a formidable and eerie undead creature that embodies the essence of death and darkness. Originating from the Shadowfell, a plane of existence associated with shadows and despair, Nightwalkers are harbingers of doom and are often depicted as towering, skeletal figures shrouded in a veil of darkness. These beings are a manifestation of the Shadowfell's pervasive gloom and are driven by an insatiable hunger for life and light.

Nightwalkers are immensely powerful, possessing both physical and supernatural abilities that make them terrifying opponents. They are usually depicted as having a chilling aura that drains the life force of those who come near, making them particularly dangerous in close combat. Their touch can inflict significant necrotic damage, and they can also unleash a fearsome aura that induces dread and weakness in their enemies. Furthermore, Nightwalkers can pass through walls and other solid objects, adding to their menacing nature as they are hard to contain or evade.

In addition to their physical prowess, Nightwalkers have a dark connection to the Shadowfell that allows them to manipulate shadows and darkness. They are often driven by a singular goal: to spread the shadow of their plane and envelop the world in a perpetual state of twilight and despair. Their presence in a campaign can signify a significant and ominous threat, often requiring powerful heroes or a desperate quest to banish them.

Nightwalkers are not just powerful adversaries but also serve as potent symbols of the creeping encroachment of darkness and the struggle against overwhelming odds. Their appearance in a campaign can elevate the stakes and infuse a sense of dread and urgency into the narrative.
