A Plant Werewolf in Dungeons & Dragons is a unique twist on the traditional werewolf, blending lycanthropy with plant-based traits. It typically occurs when a werewolf, cursed or otherwise, becomes infected by a magical or supernatural plant entity, such as a cursed forest, an ancient druidic ritual, or an encounter with a fey force. The transformation still follows the classic werewolf structure, where the individual shifts from a human form to a wolf-like form during the full moon or under specific conditions. However, the transformation also includes distinct plant-like features, such as bark-like skin, vine-covered limbs, or leaves sprouting from the werewolf's fur.

In their hybrid or wolf form, a Plant Werewolf might gain the ability to control plants, summon vines, or blend into the foliage of the natural world. They may have enhanced durability from plant-like resilience, gaining resistance to physical damage or becoming immune to certain types of environmental conditions like poison. The Plant Werewolf also has a deeper connection with nature, possibly even drawing power from the land itself.

These creatures may retain some intelligence and social traits of their humanoid form, with motivations tied to nature’s protection or vengeance against those who harm the environment. While they share the uncontrollable nature of classic werewolves, the Plant Werewolf’s transformation may also be driven by a sense of duty or vengeance, making them more complex in their role within a campaign. Encounters with them could involve confronting the wrath of nature or dealing with their struggles between their bestial instincts and their deeper connection to the natural world.
