In Dungeons & Dragons, a raccoon is not a standard creature in official rulebooks but can appear in various ways. As a mundane animal, a raccoon would typically be classified as a Tiny Beast with low hit points, a high Dexterity score, and proficiency in Stealth. It could use its nimble paws to manipulate objects, making it excellent for mischievous antics like stealing small items or unlocking simple containers.

Raccoons may also serve as familiars when using the find familiar spell, taking on characteristics similar to a weasel or cat. A raccoon familiar would enhance a wizard or warlock’s utility with its dexterous nature and inquisitive personality. Some Dungeon Masters might introduce raccoons as awakened animals via the awaken spell, granting them intelligence and the ability to speak. Such a creature could function as a quirky NPC or even an unconventional player character in a homebrew setting.

In some campaigns, raccoons may be reflavored as fey or magical creatures. A Fey Raccoon might have minor illusion abilities, while a fiendish variant could act as an imp-like trickster. Additionally, homebrew settings sometimes feature humanoid raccoon-folk, similar to tabaxi but themed around raccoons instead of felines. These creatures might possess racial traits like darkvision, climbing speed, and an ability to pilfer small objects easily.

For comedic or narrative effect, some DMs may introduce a raccoon as an unexpected force of chaos, whether as a petty thief in an urban setting, a secret guardian of the wilderness, or even a magical entity with mysterious origins. Regardless of the role they play, raccoons in D&D tend to be clever, resourceful, and always up to some kind of mischief, making them a fun and memorable addition to any campaign.
