In *Dungeons & Dragons*, a Redcap is a malevolent, fey creature originating from the Shadowfell, known for its bloodthirsty and violent nature. Standing around 3 to 4 feet tall, Redcaps are dwarfish beings with a distinctly menacing appearance. They wear heavy iron boots and a signature red cap, dyed with the blood of their victims, from which they get their name. Their crimson caps require constant saturation with fresh blood, a need that drives their insatiable urge to kill.
Redcaps are born from dark fey magic, usually when someone expresses a particularly violent or vengeful wish. This magic gives life to the Redcap, who then emerges fully formed and ready to carry out their murderous desires. Despite their small stature, Redcaps are incredibly strong and fast, wielding large scythes or other brutal weapons to slaughter their foes. They revel in chaos and death, targeting weaker or isolated prey.
In combat, Redcaps are ferocious and relentless. Their iron boots allow them to charge at enemies with surprising speed, and their strength lets them deal massive blows. However, they are not particularly cunning and tend to attack head-on, relying on brute force rather than tactics. Although they can be slain like most creatures, Redcaps are notably durable, often requiring significant effort to defeat.
Redcaps are rarely found working with others, as their bloodlust and violent nature make them poor allies. Instead, they often haunt remote areas or serve darker fey entities, perpetuating their blood-soaked existence. In *D&D*, encountering a Redcap can make for a brutal and deadly encounter, especially for unprepared adventurers.
