A Stalagmite Mimic in Dungeons & Dragons is a variant of the classic Mimic creature, designed to disguise itself as a natural formation within caves or dungeons. This creature uses its shape-shifting abilities to resemble a stalagmite, a common feature in subterranean environments. By blending in with its surroundings, it waits patiently for unsuspecting adventurers to approach. When a creature comes too close, the Stalagmite Mimic reveals its true nature, attacking with its powerful pseudopods.

The Stalagmite Mimic retains many of the core traits of the standard Mimic, such as its ability to mimic objects and its predatory behavior. However, it has adapted to life in rocky, underground environments, specifically targeting cave-dwelling adventurers or treasure hunters. The creature’s hardened, rocky exterior allows it to blend seamlessly into the terrain, making it difficult to detect without careful inspection.

A Stalagmite Mimic typically has a deceptive appearance, resembling a rough stone column or stalagmite, with its true form concealed until it strikes. When it attacks, it often surprises its prey, using its pseudopods to grapple and potentially devour its victims. Its mimicry extends beyond its physical form, and it may also imitate inanimate objects such as treasure chests or furniture, though its most common disguise is as a stalagmite in caves or underground lairs.

Though capable of fierce combat, the Stalagmite Mimic is not particularly intelligent and relies on its natural camouflage and ambush tactics. Like all mimics, it feeds by luring in prey and consuming them, often dragging them back into its lair to digest. Adventurers may find themselves caught off guard if they fail to notice the telltale signs of the creature's true nature.
