In Dungeons & Dragons, an Undead Wyvern is a terrifying variant of the classic wyvern, reanimated through dark necromantic magic. Normally, wyverns are large, predatory creatures, resembling dragons but with fewer limbs—possessing wings and a barbed tail. These creatures are known for their venomous stings and aerial prowess, often striking fear into the hearts of adventurers. When a wyvern succumbs to death, its body can be raised by necromancers or other forces of undeath, transforming it into an Undead Wyvern.

An Undead Wyvern retains much of its physical form, including its massive wings, powerful tail, and deadly venomous stinger, but it loses the instincts and drives of a living creature. Its body is animated by necromantic magic, and it becomes an unthinking, relentless predator, driven only by its undead nature. Unlike living wyverns, which may hunt for sustenance or defend their territory, Undead Wyverns are driven by dark forces and serve the necromancer or entity that controls them.

These creatures are typically found as part of a necromantic army, serving as terrifying mounts or guardians. Their physical traits remain mostly the same, making them formidable in battle with powerful, devastating attacks. However, their undead nature makes them resistant to many of the typical weaknesses that living creatures might have, such as poison or disease. As undead, they are also immune to the effects of sleep, paralysis, and other conditions that affect living creatures.

An Undead Wyvern is a creature of pure malice, attacking anything that enters its domain without hesitation or mercy. They make for dangerous adversaries, particularly when used strategically by necromancers to terrorize or control regions, turning them into nightmarish landscapes where the living are hunted by the relentless undead.
