This is a highly detailed miniature of a Wall of Thorns.

This model was created by M3DM who makes amazingly accurate models of Dungeons & Dragons creatures and is provided by Commercial License.

In Dungeons & Dragons, Wall of Thorns is a powerful conjuration spell that creates a dense, nearly impenetrable barrier of sharp, twisting vegetation. Typically available to druids, it exemplifies the druid’s connection to nature and their ability to manipulate it to protect themselves or control the battlefield. When cast, the spell forms a wall that can be up to 60 feet long, 10 feet high, and 5 feet thick, creating a formidable obstacle for enemies. The thorns are magically enhanced, meaning they can inflict serious damage to any creature attempting to pass through or attack the wall. Creatures that enter or move within the wall take piercing damage for every foot they travel, while those trying to break or climb it face additional harm and significant difficulty due to the dense, entangling growth.

The wall is flexible in shape; it can be straight, curved, or even form an enclosed area, allowing creative tactical uses. A druid might place it to block narrow corridors, surround key allies, or funnel enemies into a kill zone. Unlike ordinary vegetation, the wall is magically resistant to physical attacks, making it more durable than a natural hedge. Its effect persists for up to ten minutes with concentration, meaning the caster must maintain focus, but during that time it can decisively control the flow of combat. Wall of Thorns can also damage objects, destroying wooden doors or fragile barriers if necessary.

Strategically, the spell is often used to split enemy forces, protect spellcasters, or buy time for retreat. While it is an offensive tool in that it deals damage, its greatest utility is defensive and controlling. It exemplifies Dungeons & Dragons’ emphasis on creative spellcasting, where a druid can manipulate the environment itself rather than relying solely on direct attacks. The spell is considered high-level, usually available at the sixth level, reflecting its potential to dramatically influence encounters. Wall of Thorns showcases the druid’s thematic connection to nature’s ferocity, combining both destructive power and battlefield control in a single, versatile spell. Its presence on the battlefield forces enemies to rethink their approach, often turning terrain into a weapon as lethal as the druid’s own abilities.
