An Exotic Shorthair cat is a domestic breed known for combining the plush, round-faced appearance of the Persian with the short, easy-to-maintain coat of a British Shorthair. Developed in the 1950s by crossbreeding Persians with American Shorthairs, Exotic Shorthairs are recognized for their sweet, gentle personalities and distinctive physical traits.
Physically, they have a rounded head with full cheeks, large, expressive eyes, and a short, flat nose, giving them a “teddy bear” appearance. Their small, rounded ears and thick, muscular body contribute to their compact, cobby build. Unlike Persians, their dense coat is short and plush, which makes grooming much simpler, though they still benefit from regular brushing to prevent matting and hairballs.
Behaviorally, Exotic Shorthairs are affectionate, playful, and sociable, often forming strong bonds with their human families. They tend to enjoy interactive play but are less active than many other breeds, favoring lounging and gentle exploration. They are generally calm and adaptable, making them suitable for both families and single owners, and they often get along well with other pets.
Exotic Shorthairs are also known for their soft, quiet voices and a tendency to communicate with gentle meows or purrs. They are generally healthy but can inherit the same flat-faced (brachycephalic) traits as Persians, making them prone to breathing issues, tear staining, and dental crowding. Lifespan usually ranges from 12 to 15 years with proper care.
Overall, Exotic Shorthairs are ideal for people who love the Persian look and temperament but want a low-maintenance coat and a calm, loving companion.
This Bust is 15cm tall.
