A Fox Terrier is a breed of dog originally developed in England for hunting foxes and other small game. Known for their energetic and lively temperament, Fox Terriers are highly intelligent, alert, and spirited, often displaying a fearless attitude despite their small size. They are versatile dogs, historically used both in the field for fox hunting and as companions around homes and farms.

There are two main types: the Smooth Fox Terrier and the Wire Fox Terrier. The Smooth Fox Terrier has a short, dense coat that lies flat, while the Wire Fox Terrier features a wiry, rough coat with a more textured appearance. Both types typically have predominantly white coats with black, tan, or brown markings. They are medium-sized dogs, generally weighing between 15–19 pounds and standing around 13–16 inches tall at the shoulder.

Fox Terriers are known for their high energy levels and require plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. They are agile and quick, traits that made them excellent hunters and still make them good at dog sports like agility and obedience competitions. Socially, they are affectionate and loyal to their families but can be somewhat independent and stubborn, which may require consistent training.

Despite their small stature, they are fearless and sometimes overly bold around larger dogs. Their keen sense of smell and strong prey drive mean they may chase small animals if not properly supervised. Fox Terriers are also known for their playful and mischievous personalities, often forming strong bonds with their owners and thriving in active households.
