A French Bulldog is a small, muscular dog breed with a smooth coat, compact body, and distinctive bat-like ears that stand upright. Originating in France in the 19th century, the breed was developed from small bulldogs imported from England, combined with local French dogs. French Bulldogs are renowned for their affectionate and playful nature, making them excellent companion animals. They are generally friendly, sociable, and good with children and other pets, though they can sometimes be stubborn.

Physically, French Bulldogs are low to the ground, usually weighing between 16–28 pounds, with a height of 11–12 inches at the shoulder. Their short, flat muzzle gives them a characteristic “squashed” face, which also makes them prone to breathing difficulties and heat sensitivity. Despite their small size, they are sturdy dogs with strong muscles and a broad chest. They have a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors, including fawn, brindle, white, or combinations of these.

French Bulldogs require moderate exercise and enjoy short walks or play sessions, but their exercise tolerance is limited due to their brachycephalic (flat-faced) anatomy. Grooming is minimal, needing only occasional brushing and routine care like nail trimming and ear cleaning. Social and affectionate, they thrive on human companionship and can suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long periods.

Their personality is a mix of playful, alert, and sometimes stubborn traits, making training a patient process. They are particularly well-suited for apartment living because of their size and relatively low activity levels. Overall, French Bulldogs are charming, loyal pets known for their unique appearance and loving disposition.
