A German Shepherd is a large and intelligent breed of working dog that originated in Germany in the late 19th century. It was developed primarily by Captain Max von Stephanitz, who wanted to create the ideal herding dog by selectively breeding different strains of German sheepdogs. The result was a versatile, loyal, and highly trainable breed that quickly became valued not just for herding, but for police, military, and service work.

Physically, German Shepherds are strong, muscular, and athletic, usually weighing between 50 to 90 pounds depending on sex and build. They have a double coat that can be short or medium-length, with common colors including black and tan, sable, or solid black. Their erect ears, bushy tail, and confident stance give them a distinctive and alert appearance.

One of their defining traits is intelligence. German Shepherds consistently rank among the most trainable dog breeds, capable of learning complex commands and performing specialized tasks. This makes them common choices for law enforcement, search-and-rescue teams, guide dogs for the blind, and therapy animals. Their protective instincts and loyalty also make them excellent family companions when properly trained and socialized.

German Shepherds are energetic and require both mental stimulation and regular physical exercise. Without proper outlets, they can become bored and develop destructive behaviors. They thrive when given jobs to do, whether it’s agility training, obedience work, or simply interactive play with their families.

Because of their protective nature, they are often wary of strangers, but with early training and socialization they can be confident and well-mannered around new people and other animals. They are also known for forming strong bonds with their families, often becoming especially attached to one primary handler.

This Bust is 15cm tall.
