A Golden Retriever is a large, friendly, and intelligent breed of dog that originated in Scotland during the 19th century. They were originally bred for retrieving game, especially waterfowl, during hunting. Their name comes from both their beautiful golden-colored coats and their skill at “retrieving” without damaging the catch.
Golden Retrievers are known for their affectionate and gentle temperament, which makes them excellent family pets. They are highly social dogs, usually getting along well with children, other pets, and strangers. Their patience and eagerness to please also make them one of the most popular breeds for service and therapy work, often assisting people with disabilities, acting as guide dogs for the visually impaired, and offering comfort in hospitals and care homes.
Physically, they are strong and athletic, with a medium-to-large build, a broad head, and expressive dark eyes that often give them a kind appearance. Their coats are dense, water-repellent, and can range from light cream to deep gold. Because of their double coat, they shed throughout the year and need regular grooming to keep their fur healthy and reduce matting.
Golden Retrievers are also highly trainable due to their intelligence and eagerness to work with humans. They excel in obedience training, agility, and various dog sports. Their love of retrieving often extends into play, as they are enthusiastic about chasing balls and swimming. However, they are active dogs that require regular exercise and mental stimulation; without it, they can become bored and potentially destructive.
Health-wise, Golden Retrievers are generally robust, but like many larger breeds, they are prone to certain genetic issues such as hip dysplasia, heart conditions, and certain cancers. With proper care, nutrition, and regular veterinary check-ups, they typically live around 10 to 12 years.
This Bust is 15cm tall.
