Holt Station is a heritage railway station located near the market town of Holt in North Norfolk, England. It serves as the western terminus of the North Norfolk Railway (NNR), also known as the “Poppy Line,” which runs for about 5 miles between Holt and Sheringham along a restored section of the former Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway.

The original Holt railway station opened in 1884 as part of the line connecting Melton Constable and Cromer, providing both passenger and freight services. It was closed to regular passenger traffic in 1964 during the Beeching cuts, which saw many rural railway lines shut down. The current station, however, is not located on the exact site of the original; it lies about a mile west of the town. It was rebuilt and reopened in 1989 by the volunteers of the North Norfolk Railway, who constructed it in a traditional Great Eastern Railway style using salvaged materials and period architecture to match the heritage aesthetic.

Today, Holt Station is a popular tourist attraction, offering steam and diesel train rides through the scenic countryside toward the coast at Sheringham. The station area includes vintage railway signage, a signal box, sidings, and a museum display that captures the charm of mid-20th-century British rail travel. Visitors can also find preserved rolling stock, a souvenir shop, and connections to a heritage bus service that links the station with Holt town centre.

Holt Station stands as a symbol of local preservation efforts, combining nostalgia with active railway operation. It reflects both the dedication of volunteers who saved part of Norfolk’s rail heritage and the continued appeal of traditional steam railways in British cultural tourism.
