A Keeshond is a medium-sized dog breed originating from the Netherlands, often recognized for its striking “spectacles” — markings and shading around the eyes that give the appearance of glasses. Historically, Keeshonden were used as watchdogs on Dutch barges and farms, alerting their owners to strangers and guarding property. They have a fox-like expression, with pointed ears, a wedge-shaped head, and a thick double coat consisting of a soft undercoat and a longer, harsher outer coat, which provides insulation and protection in cold weather. Their fur is typically a mix of gray, black, and cream, with lighter markings on the chest and legs.

Keeshonden are known for their friendly, outgoing, and intelligent temperament. They are highly social dogs, forming strong bonds with their families and generally getting along well with children and other pets. They are eager to please and relatively easy to train, though their intelligence and alertness mean they need mental stimulation and consistent guidance.
