A Labrador Retriever is a breed of dog known for its friendly, outgoing, and intelligent nature. Originating in Newfoundland, Canada, and later refined in England, Labradors were initially bred as fishing and hunting dogs, tasked with retrieving nets and game from water. Today, they are one of the most popular dog breeds worldwide due to their versatility and gentle temperament.
Labradors are medium to large-sized dogs, typically weighing between 55–80 pounds (25–36 kg) and standing 21.5–24.5 inches (55–62 cm) tall at the shoulder. They have a strong, athletic build, a broad head, expressive eyes, and a distinctive thick “otter” tail. Their coat is short, dense, and water-resistant, which helps them work in wet conditions. Labradors come in three standard colors: black, yellow, and chocolate.
