A Pekingese is a small, toy breed of dog that originated in China, specifically from the city of Peking (now Beijing), where it was bred as a companion for Chinese royalty. These dogs are easily recognizable due to their distinctive flat faces, large round eyes, and long, flowing double coats that often come in a variety of colors. Their fur forms a “mane” around their neck and shoulders, giving them a lion-like appearance, which was highly prized in Chinese culture.

Despite their small size—usually weighing between 7 and 14 pounds—Pekingese have a confident, sometimes stubborn personality.
