A Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a small, sturdy herding dog breed originating from Pembrokeshire in Wales. They are most famous for their short legs, long body, and expressive faces, often giving them a playful and alert appearance. Despite their compact size, Pembroke Welsh Corgis are surprisingly agile and strong, reflecting their original purpose as herding dogs, particularly for cattle.

They typically weigh between 25–30 pounds and stand around 10–12 inches tall at the shoulder. Their coat is medium-length, dense, and weather-resistant, coming in colors such as red, sable, fawn, black and tan, often with white markings. A notable physical feature is that Pembrokes usually have a naturally short or docked tail, unlike their close relatives, the Cardigan Welsh Corgis, which have long tails.

Corgis are highly intelligent and trainable, with a strong work ethic and a playful, affectionate temperament. They are known for their loyalty and often bond closely with family members, making them excellent companions. However, their herding instincts can make them prone to nipping at heels and chasing moving objects, so early socialization and training are important.

Energetically, they require regular exercise despite their small stature. Walks, playtime, and mentally stimulating activities help prevent boredom, which can lead to mischievous behavior. They are generally good with children and other pets when properly socialized, and their alertness makes them surprisingly effective watchdogs.

Overall, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi combines charm, intelligence, and loyalty in a compact, energetic package, which is why they have remained popular both as working dogs and as family pets.
