A Rottweiler is a large and powerful breed of domestic dog that is known for its strength, loyalty, and protective instincts. Originating in Germany, Rottweilers were historically used as herding dogs and for pulling carts laden with goods, as well as guarding property and livestock. Over time, they have also become popular as police, military, and search-and-rescue dogs due to their intelligence, trainability, and courage.

Physically, Rottweilers are muscular and robust, with a broad chest, strong legs, and a distinctive black coat with clearly defined tan or mahogany markings on the face, chest, and legs. They have a strong jaw and a confident stance, which contributes to their reputation as excellent guard dogs. Adult males typically weigh between 95–135 pounds (43–61 kg) and females between 80–100 pounds (36–45 kg).

Temperamentally, Rottweilers are loyal, confident, and protective of their families. They are often calm and affectionate with people they know but can be reserved or wary around strangers. Proper socialization and consistent training from an early age are crucial, as their size and strength can make untrained dogs difficult to manage.

Despite their reputation for being aggressive, Rottweilers are not inherently dangerous; they are highly intelligent and can be gentle, playful, and loving when raised in a nurturing environment. They thrive with active families, enjoy mental stimulation, and require regular exercise to maintain both physical and mental health.

In short, a Rottweiler is a strong, intelligent, and loyal dog breed with a natural guarding instinct, making them excellent companions for responsible owners who provide structure, training, and socialization.
