A Samoyed is a breed of dog known for its striking white, fluffy coat, friendly demeanor, and signature “Sammy smile,” a slight upward curve of the lips that gives them a perpetually happy expression. Originating from Siberia, they were bred by the Samoyede people to herd reindeer, pull sleds, and keep their owners warm in the harsh Arctic climate. Their thick double coat is insulating, designed to withstand extremely cold temperatures, but it also means they shed heavily and require regular grooming.

Samoyeds are medium to large dogs, typically weighing between 45–65 pounds (20–30 kg) and standing 19–23 inches (48–60 cm) tall at the shoulder. They are known for their intelligence, alertness, and sociable nature, which makes them excellent family pets. They are very people-oriented and rarely aggressive, often forming strong bonds with their owners.

In addition to their friendly temperament, Samoyeds are energetic and playful, requiring regular exercise to stay happy and healthy. They are also vocal, using barks, howls, and “talking” noises to communicate. Despite their charm, they can be stubborn and independent-minded, so consistent training and socialization from an early age are important.
