A serval is a wild cat native to Africa, known for its distinctive appearance and exceptional hunting skills. It is medium-sized, generally weighing between 20 and 40 pounds, with long legs, a slender body, large ears, and a short tail. Its coat is golden-yellow with black spots and stripes, which helps it blend into tall grasses and woodland areas.

Servals are highly adapted hunters. Their long legs and large ears allow them to detect and pounce on prey with remarkable precision, often catching birds, rodents, frogs, insects, and small reptiles. They are especially famous for their ability to leap high into the air to snatch birds in flight.

These cats are mostly solitary and territorial. They are primarily nocturnal but can be active during the day. Servals are also known for their vocalizations, including purrs, chirps, hisses, and growls, which they use to communicate with other servals or express emotions.

In some regions, servals are kept as exotic pets, but they require specialized care because of their high energy, hunting instincts, and need for space. Conservation-wise, servals are not currently endangered, though habitat loss and hunting pose localized threats.

In short, a serval is a graceful, long-legged African wild cat celebrated for its hunting prowess, striking appearance, and agility.
