A Shiba Inu is a small-to-medium breed of dog originating from Japan, known for its fox-like appearance, spirited personality, and agile, compact body. It is one of the oldest and most popular Japanese dog breeds, originally bred for hunting small game in mountainous regions. Shiba Inus typically have a thick double coat, erect triangular ears, and a curled tail that rests over their back. Their coat colors often include red, sesame (red with black-tipped hairs), black and tan, or cream.

Personality-wise, Shiba Inus are intelligent, independent, and often described as cat-like in their behavior. They can be aloof with strangers but are loyal and affectionate with their owners. They are also known for being highly alert, making them excellent watchdogs, and for having a strong prey drive due to their hunting background.
