A tiger is a large, carnivorous mammal belonging to the species Panthera tigris, part of the cat family (Felidae). It is the largest of all wild cats, easily recognized by its striking orange coat marked with black stripes, although the exact pattern of stripes is unique to each individual. Tigers are apex predators, primarily hunting large herbivores such as deer, wild boar, and buffalo. They rely on stealth and strength, often stalking their prey silently before making a sudden, powerful attack.
Tigers are solitary animals, with each individual typically maintaining a large territory, which they mark with scent markings to warn off others. They are excellent swimmers, capable of crossing rivers and lakes, which distinguishes them from many other big cats. Their habitats range from tropical forests and grasslands to mangrove swamps, and historically they were found across much of Asia, though now their populations are fragmented due to habitat loss and poaching.

Currently, tigers are classified as endangered, with wild populations declining because of human activities, making conservation efforts critical for their survival.
