A wallaby is a small- to medium-sized marsupial native to Australia and nearby islands. It belongs to the same family as kangaroos (Macropodidae) but is generally smaller, with shorter legs and a more compact body. Like kangaroos, wallabies have powerful hind legs designed for hopping, a long tail for balance, and a pouch in which females carry and nurse their young, called joeys.
Wallabies are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits, and they are adapted to a variety of habitats, from forests and woodlands to grasslands and rocky outcrops. There are many species of wallabies, and their size can range from about 25 centimeters (10 inches) tall for the smallest rock-wallabies to over a meter (3 feet) tall for larger species.
Wallabies are mostly crepuscular or nocturnal, meaning they are active during dawn, dusk, or night. They are known for their agility and ability to jump long distances, which helps them escape predators. Socially, some wallabies live in groups called mobs, while others are more solitary, depending on the species and environment.
In short, a wallaby is essentially a smaller cousin of the kangaroo, sharing similar physical traits and behaviors but often adapted to different ecological niches.
This Bust is 15cm tall.
