They were originally bred to catch rats in textile mills, which gives them a surprising combination of agility, intelligence, and tenacity despite their tiny size. Adult Yorkies typically weigh between 4 and 7 pounds (1.8–3.2 kg) and stand about 7 to 8 inches (18–20 cm) tall at the shoulder.
Yorkshire Terriers are best known for their long, silky coat, which is usually a combination of steel blue and rich tan.
