A zebra is a mammal native to Africa, closely related to horses and donkeys, known for its distinctive black-and-white striped coat. The stripes are unique to each individual, much like human fingerprints, and serve several purposes, including camouflage in tall grass, confusing predators, and possibly helping regulate body temperature or deter biting insects. Zebras are social animals that live in herds, often led by a dominant male, called a stallion, and include several females and their offspring.
There are three main species of zebras: the plains zebra, the Grevy’s zebra, and the mountain zebra, each with slightly different stripe patterns, habitats, and behaviors. Plains zebras are the most common and are often found in savannas and grasslands, while Grevy’s zebras live in semi-arid regions and are taller and more slender. Mountain zebras inhabit rocky, mountainous areas and have narrower stripes.
Zebras are herbivores, primarily grazing on grasses but sometimes consuming leaves and shrubs. They have strong teeth and digestive systems adapted to process coarse, fibrous vegetation. In the wild, zebras are prey for lions, hyenas, and other large predators, but they rely on speed, stamina, and herd cooperation to escape danger.
Zebras have also become cultural symbols, often associated with uniqueness, balance, and natural beauty, and are popular in wildlife conservation and tourism. Despite their iconic appearance, some species, like Grevy’s zebra, are considered endangered due to habitat loss and hunting.
This Bust is 15cm tall.
