This is a highly detailed miniature of an Abyssal Mage.

This model was created by Crossel who makes amazingly accurate models of the Monster Manual creatures and provided by kind permission.

An Abyssal Mage in Dungeons & Dragons is a spellcaster whose arcane or pact-bound power is drawn directly from the chaotic and malevolent energies of the Abyss, the infinite plane of demons. Unlike a conventional wizard who studies structured arcane formulae, or a cleric who channels divine order, the Abyssal Mage manipulates magic that is inherently unstable, corrosive, and suffused with fiendish will. Their abilities often reflect themes of entropy, corruption, madness, and raw destructive force.

In cosmological terms, the Abyss is a plane of infinite layers, each ruled or contested by demon lords such as Demogorgon or Orcus. An Abyssal Mage may have forged a pact with such an entity, uncovered forbidden grimoires penned in Abyssal script, or survived exposure to planar rifts that permanently altered their magical signature. Mechanically, this archetype is most commonly represented through subclasses such as a Warlock with a fiendish patron, a Wizard specializing in conjuration or necromancy with demonic influences, or a Sorcerer whose bloodline has been tainted by abyssal ancestry.

Spell selections typically emphasize fire, acid, poison, psychic assault, and summoning. Conjure demon, summon greater demon, and spells that impose fear or madness are thematically appropriate. Visually, an Abyssal Mage might exhibit subtle physical mutations: black-veined skin, ember-lit eyes, faint horns, or a shadow that moves independently. Their spellcasting often manifests as writhing darkness, screaming sigils, or flames that burn with unnatural hues.

Narratively, the Abyssal Mage occupies a morally precarious position. Some embrace damnation, serving demonic ambitions in the material world. Others attempt to harness abyssal forces as a weapon against greater threats, risking corruption with every incantation. In campaign design, they function effectively as antagonists, corrupted scholars, cult leaders, or dangerous antiheroes whose power grows in proportion to the chaos they unleash.

This model is 35mm tall at 32mm scale.
