A Boilborn is a creature from Dungeons & Dragons, introduced in *Libris Mortis: The Book of Undead* (3.5 edition). These creatures are undead monstrosities, created through necromantic rituals that harness the corrupting power of disease. They are animated corpses swollen with infectious fluids, their bodies bloated and deformed from the diseases they carry. This grotesque appearance makes them a horrifying sight on the battlefield.
Boilborns are driven by an insatiable urge to spread the diseases they harbor, making them dangerous foes in combat. When injured, they can spew forth infectious, boiling pus, affecting those around them with sickness. This makes them hazardous to even approach, as they use their festering bodies as weapons. They often accompany more powerful undead or necromancers as expendable shock troops or sentinels, causing chaos and weakening enemies by spreading illness before a larger assault.
While not particularly intelligent, they are relentless and single-minded in their goal to infect and destroy the living. Due to their nature, Boilborns are resistant to most forms of poison and disease, further adding to their durability. Their grotesque origins and horrifying combat tactics make them fitting minions for those who deal in death, disease, and decay.
