A Bone Devil, also known as an Osyluth, is a fiendish creature found within the infernal hierarchy of devils in Dungeons & Dragons. Towering at over nine feet tall, it resembles a horrific fusion of skeletal humanoid and insect, with a gaunt, bone-white body, clawed hands, and a long, barbed tail dripping with venom. Its terrifying visage is completed by a horned skull-like head and bat-like wings that allow it to fly with ease. The Bone Devil’s form is designed to intimidate, befitting its role as a relentless enforcer and cruel taskmaster within the Nine Hells.

Bone Devils serve as enforcers and commanders in the infernal legions, answering to higher devils such as pit fiends and archdevils. Unlike the brute ferocity of lesser devils, Bone Devils are calculating and manipulative. They are known for their cunning, discipline, and deep loyalty to the rigid structure of Hell’s hierarchy. Their primary role is to maintain order, punish disobedience, and oversee the execution of diabolical schemes. They take pride in their authority and often display a fanatical devotion to rules and punishment. In Hell’s bureaucracy, they function much like inquisitors, jailers, or field officers—serving both as battlefield commanders and sinister administrators.

In combat, Bone Devils are formidable opponents. Their tail is laced with a potent venom that can weaken and poison their foes, and their magical abilities allow them to invoke fear, cause darkness, and manipulate the battlefield. Their claws and tail can tear through armor, and their keen minds make them dangerous tacticians. While powerful, Bone Devils are not the pinnacle of devilkind. They aspire to ascend the infernal ranks, often plotting and maneuvering for promotion. Their ambition is a double-edged sword—driving them to excellence, but also making them dangerous even to their own kind.
