A Cloaker is a sinister subterranean predator that resembles an enormous black cloak gliding silently through the darkness. Although often mistaken for a harmless garment hanging from a cavern ceiling, the Cloaker is an intelligent and highly deceptive aberration that has evolved into one of the Underdark's most feared ambush hunters. Legends disagree on its true origin, with some believing they were created through twisted magical experiments, while others claim they descended from creatures touched by the mysterious energies of the Shadowfell.

When at rest, a Cloaker folds its leathery body around itself, perfectly mimicking a tattered cloak or hanging stalactite. Its broad, wing-like form spans over eight feet across, with a long, muscular tail trailing beneath it. The underside conceals a horrifying maw lined with razor-sharp teeth, while glowing crimson eyes stare unblinking from within the folds of its body. Rows of hooked claws allow it to cling effortlessly to ceilings, waiting patiently for unsuspecting prey to pass below.

The Cloaker is a master of stealth and psychological warfare. Rather than charging directly into battle, it stalks victims from above before silently descending to envelop them like a living shroud. Once wrapped around its prey, it bites relentlessly while using its powerful body to blind, suffocate, and isolate its victim from allies. The creature's eerie, echoing moan reverberates through cavern systems, spreading supernatural fear and confusion among those who hear it.

Others form uneasy alliances with darker Underdark races, acting as scouts, assassins, or guardians in exchange for regular meals.
